They Reminisce Over You

a few reflections on some of the vinyl that i own. enjoy.

"Everyday Is Like Sunday" 12" Morrissey.1988 i am a fan of the mozzer, you either are or your not. it's not really that big of a deal, i wish everyone would just get over it. anyhoo, the only time he came around the tickets were 40 something bucks and i was all fuck that, so i volunteered for security. we had to have this little security pow wow before the concert started and at the end of the meeting the head cheese was all "so morrissey is about to come out to look things over, but he doesn't want anyone to look directly at him." why are british people so funny?

"In The Court of The Crimson King, An Observation by" King Crimson.1969 okay so the first time i heard this i was high on some really serious liquid acid in san diego. which makes me feel like some how certain things are organized by a kind of higher power that has a really good sense of humor. i still think king krimson is the shit, even though for the most part only dirty hippies are into this.

"It Was Written" Nas.1996 people have a lot of opinions about mr nasir jones, but for my money this record is the one. i found this album in some real dusty spot out in brooklyn which made it seem extra legit. as a whole the record isn't that great, but songs like "take it in blood" inspire nothing but shear awe. it makes you realize that this dude is on some completely other shit. "cuban link flooded jesus, in a lex watchin' kathy lee and regis. . ." i mean come on, what the fuck is that? this is the kind of shit that makes white people nervous because they can't even decipher what the fuck he's talking about. i love it.

"Changes One" David Bowie.1976 i'm not even going to waste time on this one. i mean the man has two different colored eyes. get the fuck out of town. . .this is some hard hittin' shit on many different levels.

"Cat Scratch Fever" Ted Nugent.1977 when i was in college i was with this girl for like two or three years and towards the end of the relationship she basically had a nervous breakdown. while in the midst of this psychic meltdown she didn't get out of her bed for a couple of days and this record was on top of a pile in her bedroom staring at her. she said at one point the nuge started talking to her via this album cover, which i would imagine is pretty freaky. she ended up going back to california for a week or so to see a shrink. while she was there she also fucked some guy who was more punk than me up in oakland, then she came back and we broke up a few months after that.

"War" U2.1983 when i was a kid i was really into U2 and then they became gay. whatever. the song "seconds" on this album is the shit.

"The Best of Gil Scott-Heron" Gil Scott-Heron.1974-1984 i've always thought of gil scott-heron as a pretty heavy dude so it's funny to see homes looking soft as hell on the cover of this greatest hits comp. the gheri curl is looking extra nice with the salt and pepper beard, you just can't fuck with dude he looks like the magnet. this one's got all the hits on it and then some, the best one being about smoking dust which i gather is from a first hand experience. what else can i say.

"Lust For Life" Iggy Pop.1977 so whatever, this album is a classic. bowie is super good with the melodies and the hand claps. iggy is all weird with the lyrics and looking goofy as hell on the cover, which is my favorite part. he's all like, "hello i'm a junkie butt fucker" and you're all "thanks for sharing man, just keep coming." this whole album is like a really fun AA meeting.
